Effective Goal Setting

Goal setting can be an intimidating task. How do you set the RIGHT goal? How do you stay FOCUSED? How do you maintain your COMMITMENT? Smart goals can lead you in the right direction, and in my experience it pays to start small. Set a small goal to get you moving, something along the lines of “I will go to the gym every Monday for 45 minutes and spend 10 minutes on the treadmill, and 35 minutes resistance training.”

SMART Goals are a tool that is taught in many settings around the world, and here’s the deal.

Specific - Make your goal very specific, what are you doing? When? How?

Measurable - Make sure your goal is something that can be measured, I will squat 135 lbs

Achievable - Is this a goal that you are able to accomplish?

Relevant - Does the goal apply to what you are looking to do?

Target date - When will you accomplish this goal?

Take some time and write out your next goal in these terms, and set yourself reminders in your calendar or tell a friend to help keep you accountable and get yourself going.
